PEZA Export Enterprise Registration: From Project Application to Certificate
A PEZA certificate is granted to a registered project, not automatically to every company incorporated in the Philippines. An investor considering an export manufacturing or service operation should define the activity, proposed economic-zone site, export market, ownership, and capital requirements before filing. Those facts determine whether the project fits the PEZA category and what approvals must precede operations.
Start with the activity and location
PEZA’s rules permit qualified applicants to seek registration as export or free-trade enterprises in an economic zone, subject to statutory nationality restrictions for the activity. Its published export-manufacturing procedure calls for an application by the proponent and an identified zone location. A lease reservation or acceptance from the ecozone developer is among the standard pre-registration documents.
Prepare for project evaluation
The application should explain the products or services, customers, export plan, facilities, employment, equipment, investment timetable, and environmental requirements. PEZA evaluates the proposal and presents it to its Board. Board approval is followed by a resolution; it is not yet a substitute for satisfying the pre-registration conditions and executing the registration agreement.
Complete the post-approval conditions
PEZA’s published process lists SEC registration of the proponent, an ecozone-location acceptance or reservation, environmental-compliance filing evidence, and the registration fee among standard pre-registration requirements. The parties then sign the registration agreement and PEZA issues the certificate. The exact package should be confirmed against the live project category and current instructions.
Maintain the registered project’s terms
Export performance, approved activity, location, reporting, labor rules, customs controls, and tax treatment remain ongoing concerns. PEZA registration does not create an unrestricted right to sell locally or a blanket tax exemption. Material operational changes should be reviewed against the agreement and current law before implementation.
