Cancelling an SRRV and Recovering the Visa Deposit: The Proper Sequence
An SRRV holder may decide to leave the retirement program, move to another immigration status, or settle the affairs of a deceased principal member. The deposit should not be treated as an ordinary savings balance that can be withdrawn at will. The Philippine Retirement Authority separates termination of membership, Bureau of Immigration cancellation, and release of the visa deposit into related steps.
Determine the reason and present location
PRA states that membership may terminate voluntarily or involuntarily, including on death or revocation of the privilege. The requirements differ when the retiree remains in the Philippines and needs visa downgrading, is already abroad, or a claimant acts after death. PRA notes that a cancellation request without downgrading requires valid proof of departure.
Prepare the service request and passport record
The published PRA checklist calls for an accomplished service request and the passport bearing the SRRV sticker, with additional documents according to the circumstances. A valid current passport may be needed for downgrading. If a tax-free importation privilege was used and termination occurs within the specified period, further evidence may be required.
Wait for the immigration cancellation order
PRA’s servicing guidance links withdrawal of the maintained visa deposit to the Bureau of Immigration’s Order of Cancellation. The retiree should not arrange a bank release before the immigration and PRA conditions are satisfied. A person staying in the Philippines after cancellation must also ensure a lawful replacement status.
Provide complete bank and claimant details
For release of the deposit, PRA asks for full bank details of the principal retiree or authorized claimant, including information needed for an international transfer. A death, representative appointment, or property investment in place of a deposit can add documentary issues. The payout route should be checked with PRA and the accredited bank.
